An Attempt at Growing Paperwhites

POST #    2654

Neither Shannan or I have green thumbs. It seems like every few months or so, we get some new plan and a month or two later, they're dead. We've got a few plants that have managed to endure our brown thumbs, but similar plants in the hands of my parents seem to thrive. With us, they just manage to stay alive.

The other day, Shannan brought home these paperwhite bulbs. If all goes well, they'll bloom into beautiful, fragrant flowers in a month. With our luck, in a month they'll be rotting bulbs.

They need a dormant period in the dark and cold for a month or so. I generally don't try to force these guys until later in the season. Also, they stink when they bloom. Sort of like putrefaction. They are pretty, though.
