50mm Shake Shack Deliciousness

POST #    2501

Nothing like a double shack burger. Plus that grilled/burnt cheese stuff at the top was pretty tasty too.

that is a beautiful picture, a beautiful hamburger and a beautiful bit of burnt cheese on the top. you have no idea how badly i am drooling right now. *sigh* i would kill for a proper hamburger in japan but alas my friend, there are none to be had i tell you, and i have searched this entire country from hokkaido to okinawa (well okay, not that far, but still) and come up empty handed.

by the way i gotta ask you:

1. how did you get the file size of that picture so small despite the rather large dimensions? my images of 578x386 usually clock in at a rather hefty 120-160kb despite saving at a decent compression rate (anything lower than 9-10 on the photoshop jpg save options seems to give artifacts ) but your pictures are always huge in dimension, high quality and small in file size. What am i doing wrong oh great Tien? ;)

2. What lens did you use to shoot this picture:

and did you use a flash? I am amazed at how clear it is in the foreground, the overall colours and how much detail is still visible in the background, with absolutely no blur. *sigh* I am still just a photography neophyte, so i would really appreciate any pointers you might be able to give me as to how you shot that scene (i have a canon digital SLR but no fancy lenses yet, which is probably a good thing considering there are days when i still forget to take the lens cap off before shooting then spend about 3 seconds panicking cuz the view through the viewfinder is "dark! all dark!")

hope that hamburger was good! :)

is mos burger not cutting it? standard burger? it seemed like the tokyo-ites were somewhat burger obsessed in japan. i suppose you could always make one yourself?

okay, answers to your questions...
1: i usually "save for web" for photos on the site. i save them at 70%. that should make for a smaller file size compared to save as.
2: lens in that picture was the canon 17-40 f/4L (the one for the burger picture is the 50mm f/1.4). i did use a flash - the canon 580ex (which canon has replaced for the 580ex II).

hope that helps.
