Chipotle - "Mexican Food" I Can Like

POST #    2085

I've previously said that I hate Mexican food, which I think I can probably back off on slightly. Now, I probably just dislike it. I've started to find some items that I'll eat and even like at times.

The other night, I went to Chipotle and it's "Mexican" food that I think I could eat on a consistent basis (nevermind the digestive issues I had later). I had the crispy tacos (I can't stand the smell of the soft tortillas) with steak and roasted chili-corn salsa. Taaasty!

chipolte is great. it tastes fresh even though it is owned by mcdonlands now. we often get burritos for lunch and i'll be stuffed till dinner. they also have a chipolte tabasco sauce there always instock that works well.

Tien, Adam forwarded this link to me, and let me just say, FOOL FOOL FOOL!!!

Chipotle is to Mexican food as the trash thrown out at Panda Express is to Chinese food.

Clearly, you need to take a trip to CA or TX.

Dang, Claire. That's harsh! I like Chipotle, but I OD'd on about a month after it opened in the lobby of my office building. (I knew Claire would wig out about your post, Tien. She HATES it.)

I am never allowed out of the house. Sigh. I eat vicariously through Tien.

claire, i did say "mexican food" - besides the way chipotle does it works for me. they wipe out all the characteristics of mexican food. perfect sanitized taste for my mexican-hating palate.

and margaret, you eat pretty well then. maybe i can pass on some of the fat contents of the food to you?

You could try a burrito bowl, basically a burrito sans tortilla. And Chipotle was owned by McDonald's but spun off earlier this year.

Chipotle turned me on to the magic of Tabasco's chipotle sauce.

The one time I ate at Chipotle it was pretty good, but the quotes around Mexican are needed as it's not anything like Mexican food.

greg, you're the 2nd person to tell me that.

ok joe. how about "food?" besides, i think the corn salsa is where it's at.

Speaking of "Mexican" food, have you tried Chevy's? I have been itching for their warm tortilla chips, fresh salsa, and falisfied Mexcian food since I moved here. I just learned there's two in the city!

It's true though, you can't compare anything here to CA, although Gerald and I have tried looking for the authentic stuff. There was a decent Mexican deli on 13th and A that was not too bad, but nothing beats the Mission District in SF.

i have lived in texas. i am a mexican food snob. i love chipotle! i don't care if it's a chain, or owned by mcdonald's, bla bla bla. tien we can have a burrito date any time! as long as shannan approves, of course. J-team burrito night!!!
