A Holiday Tree Grows in Brooklyn

POST #    1985

We were toying with the idea of getting a tree for the holidays to spruce things up a bit (ha, spruce - too funny). Instead of getting a tree that was already cut, I thought, "lets get a live tree." Unfortunately, Shannan found out that they were being sold for $50, which is a little insane considering they will probably die anyway and most people in New York don't have anywhere to plant them. They're just something to you feel better about not actually having a tree chopped down for you. Well, the other weekend, we were in Target and we found a live tree for $20 something, so we picked it up. Considering how dry it was, the fact that it's still alive is somewhat of a Festivus miracle. Whether or not we can keep it alive until planting season would be another miracle.

Funny thing, I don't have a picture of the whole tree. Also funny, I don't know what kind of a tree it is besides that it's a Target tree. And the $20 we eventually paid is not nearly as bad as some prices I've been reading about. For god's sake, the trees are dead!!

We paid $15 for our tree in Red Hook. Then again, it's a little retarded looking.

Oh seeing your kitty next to the tree reminded me of my fondest memories of my now dead kitty. We had him till he was 18 so I was pretty attached. Anyway when we were kids and he was a kitten he would attack the lower branches and swing from the tree with his little baby kitten paws! He also always slept under the tree. It was pretty awesome of him.

My 6-foot-tree was $20. It's not the fullest looking tree, but it's a tree. And it wasn't $80 or $200.

DId your tree from Target come with a tree stand?

heather, this tree is much too tiny for mort to swing on.

adam, no stand. it's potted, which you can't really tell by looking at the photos. that's what i get for not taking a full picture.

last year i bought a vintage aluminum deal on eBay. love it - it packs up nicely at the end of the season and doesn't shed.
