My First Trip to Shake Shack

POST #    1780

Last night, I made my first trip to Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. First trip?? Yep, despite all the food I've had pictured on my site, I only made my first trip last night. It was the perfect night to go. Overcast with drizzle and a non-existant line and plenty of seating. I ordered a double shack burger, fries and a chocolate milkshake.

I must say that the burger was very, very tasty and possibly the best burger I've had in New York. I can't think of one that's better off the top of my head, but I can say that it's better than the burger at Corner Bistro. Then again, I think the only reason people love the Bistro Burger that much is because they are either drunk when they start eating or waited so long that they can't help but love it.

One thing that I loved about the burger was the meat to bun ratio. It was perfect. At the end, there was a nice little beef overflow that makes that last bite delicious. Mmm. I'll be coming back to this page all day to torture myself with these images.

The burger looks good, but those fries look lunchroom cafeteria style. How were they?

hmm. i'd say they were decent and better than they look. they were surprisingly flavorful and crispy despite the way they look.

what about the burger at peter luger's?

Looks so good. I think the bun at Corner Bistro is an English muffin, and that gets really soggy.

And how was the milkshake?

i've actually never had the burger at luger. that might be because i can't resist getting the steak that and i haven't been to lunch there in a while.

jen, the shake was good, but not thick enough.

i still say shake shack effed up by not putting the shack burger at the top of the (way too long for a joint that size) menu. people do NOT order anything other than a shack burger, you'll know it's good but still be left feeling a little empty inside.

Better than Corner Bistro? PSCHAW. Surely you jest. The meat the CB is much better. If you are interested in meat-bun ratio no one does it better than Burger Joint in the Park Meredian. Shake Shack is a distant third in the city.

Best Burger in New York City: Skin Flints in Bay Ridge. 5th Avenue at 77th Street.

Hands down.
