Movable Hype at The Knitting Factory

POST #    1418

Last night, I went to check out the oft-promoted Movable Hype concert, presented by Gothamist, at The Knitting Factory. Playing at the concert was The Fresh (not pictured), Sons of Sound (first picture), Snowden (second picture), and Asobi Seksu (pictures three-eight). A whole bunch of bands that I've never listened to, but what the hey. Had a few drinks, listened to some tunes, tapped my toes and bobbed my head.

I wasn't entirely sure that I would be able to last the entire show, what with the booze, tiredness, and recent sickness, but I'm glad that I did. While I enjoyed all the bands, I'm particularly happy that I stuck around for Asobi Seksu (playful sex, in Japanese). I'm not entirely sure why I liked them so much. Maybe it was Yuki, the lead singer, and her short skirt, or maybe because they seem to live in Greenpoint.

- Youngna on "Movable Hype" (check out her extreme closeups)
- WhatISee on "Movable Hype"
- Brooklyn Vegan on "Movable Hype or..."
- Jen on "now what?"
- Gothamist on "A Movable Hype Thank You"
- Jake on "Movable Hype Slow Synchro Flash"

some might say these photos are bad (especially the asobi seksu ones), but i like to think of them as "creatively blurry"...

I always thought Keith lived in Astoria. Maybe he moved.

i'm not totally sure they live there or which members live there, but they sure seemed to say "greenpoint" a lot in that interview.

hey are creatively blurry. I do like the 5th and 6th shots a lot.

hey tien, i saw you there but didn't get to say hi.

Those are great pics! Especially considering that the vodka had most of the people shaking, and the music was literally shaking the rest. I am very envious of your ability to take in so much ambient light.

If you were who I think you were at the show, I was trying to steal some of your flash, but I couldn't time it right. I'd either take a picture just after you flashed, or just when I thought you would take the shot, you'd refocus and I'd be left with a horridly dark blurry shot.

thanks! i was wearing my glasses and way too much coat for the weather.

i actually didn't use any flash at all, i think you're thinking of youngna (who i'm convinced use flash towards the end). i'll assume you were the other asian guy leaning against the pole during the last set?

I dunno, I like those blurry shots, especially #5... and the Yuki leg-shots as well! ;)

In #5 the ghost trail of the guitar neck seems to compliment the creases in the background curtain... Oh Damn! I knocked over my bong!

matt, i have tons of shot like that. it was a bit insane actually.

oh, and now you have nasty bong juice everywhere.

Someone was using flash up front from the middle to the end. Well, someone and the lady directly behind me (sporting what looked to be a Sony p72) with the red-eye reduction flash (too weak to get a good flash steal from ... I tried multiple times). From the angle of the shots I assumed it was you. Of course, I also have absolutely no idea what you look like.

Actually, I'm not too sure of anything last night. I can't hold my liquor, and yet after my first drink I scored a free drink ticket, so I was pretty out there.

And if you are implying that I NEEDED to lean against that pole due to my intoxication, I am greatly insulted. For your information, I was holding up that pillar, keeping it from collapsing on top of all of us. You're welcome, btw.

*yeah, right, that's the ticket*

Hi. It was nice meeting you yesterday. I was youngna's friend.. the one without a camera (boooo!). I like that 5th one cuz it's crazy like absinthe. ok too tired to be coherent.
