Smooth Mouth & Neapolitan Ice Cream

POST #    1403

Two totally unrelated topics, grouped together...awesome.

Yesterday, I took part in some overzealous eating of dumplings, which wasn't a great idea. I know, I eat overzealously a lot, but these dumplings were freshly cooked and the oil burnt the roof of my mouth. Now, I have two smooth sections of skin in my mouth, which is a pretty cool sensation. Sure, it was painful when it happened, but now it's not. The scarred tissue is just nice and smooth and fun to play with.

To try and soothe this last night, I tried some ice cream. Okay, maybe it wasn't entirely about soothing the "pain". With two ice cream choices - rum raisin and Neapolitan - I opted for the variety that Neapolitan provided, despite the potential soothing qualities of the rum. It used to be that I enjoyed strawberry the most, followed by chocolate, with vanilla in a distant third. Now, however, I've got a new fondness for vanilla. It has yet to overtake chocolate or strawberry, but I do like it a lot more now. Also, has anyone else noticed that the chocolate section of the Neapolitan ice cream is the flavor with the least amount of ice cream? Of course, this reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Homer yells, "Marge, we need some more vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream!'' Of course, the two several containers Homer went through only had the chocolate eaten.

didn't the ice cream make the burned part of your mouth peel off? ick. i've never had rum raisin ice cream. somehow it seems very unappealing.

actually, i think the skin already peeled off.

rum raisin is pretty tasty. unless you don't like raisins that is.

isn't it so odd how tastes change over time? i used to hate vanilla, and chocolate was definitely king. gradually that all reversed. i don't think i liked pizza either until i was in middle school.

I don't think you can get real dumplings up here. It's all pretty much Chinese prison food. I'm envious, and nostalgic for my days of living in the city long ago. Here, you couldn't even burn yourself on a dumpling if you wanted to. (pizza, yes)

You haven't really burned the roof of your mouth until you can suck blood through it. Oh dear god did that suck.

hmm, both sam and i scalded our mouths on hot tea yesterday (and i scalded my upper lip at the same time), so i'm feeling your pain right now.

I think that is my favorite Simpsons line of all time; what makes it really fun is that he actually goes through about 8 containers, all without any chocolate, before shouting to Marge.

and while he's going through the containers, he's just tossing them onto the kitchen floor.

and it's totally more than two...not sure why i wrote two. i'll change that.

I can't believe you like the strawberry more than the vanilla. We always had a whole side of strawberry left over and the rest gone, all gone, while growing up... chocolate seems to be a universal first. Mmmmm....
