Kingda Ka - 456 feet of Madness at Six Flags Great Adventure

POST #    1332

Holy Crap! Last week, Six Flags Great Adventure announced a new expansion to their park which will include the world's tallest roller coaster - Kingda Ka. It's scheduled open date is Spring, 2005. Using hydraulic launch rockets, riders will reach a speed of 128 mph and go up to 456 feet high. 0 to 128 in 3.5 seconds and then vertical to 90° with a quarter turn. After reaching the peak, the coaster goes straight down with a 3/4 turn.

I'm so there next year at some point.

hmm, no, i don't think that's the idea that six flags officials are going for. think of the marketing disaster with that...

Pretty cool. There is a very similar roller coaster at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio, I believe it opened a year or two ago. But that one is "only" 400 feet tall with a 120 mph launch, so clearly it is inferior to the one six flags is building ;). I haven't been to Cedar Point (arguably the best coaster park in the world) since their big one opened, but I did ride Millenium Force there in 2000, which is 310 feet tall and goes 90+ mph.

I highly suggest that you go to Cedar Point as soon as possible and ride every ride you can. Aimee and I were there in August, while visiting my parents. The current world's record holder for fastest, tallest ride, the Top Thrill Dragster, as well as about twelve other previously-world-record-holding rides are all at Cedar Point.

The park is open until Midnight every Saturday in October, as part of their Halloweekend fall season. If you don't want to rent a car with friends, you can take the Amtrak, which drops you off near the park in Sandusky, Ohio.

Can you really see Philly and New York City on a clear day from the top of Kingda Ka?
