Mixing it Old School

POST #    1123

Now that I'm in Greenpoint, I've got to fit in a little. Short of learning Polish, which wouldn't be a bad idea, I have this fancy blender. This blender, full of 80's chic will allow me to blend in (har, har) with both the hipsters in Williamsburg and the older people in the area that still have these appliances.

The Osterizer has ten modes of Pulse-Matic goodness! I think it might be as old as me, I'm not really sure. Since the 80's look is in (or is it out again), I figure my Osterizer is good to have around.

I've got some rum, who wants to make some daiquiris?

Oh my god i have that exact same blender! I LOVE the osterizer. I got mine from my grandmother.

That looks older than my 10-speed Osterizer from the mid-80s. Want to borrow my blender cookbook?

see, i got the blender from my mom. she claims it's from the early 80's or late 70's. so it's pretty much as old as me!

joe, what is a blender cookbook? like you blend things and then cook?

i've got to think that a new blender would be more energy efficient.

I got that same blender when I was in medical school in the early 80's. I still have it, but I retired it to a cupboard when I bought my Vita-Mix 5000 (probably related to the Nimbus 2000).

With the Vita-Mix, let's say you need a fiber rich smoothie - you just throw in a piece of firewood, and it's pulp in about three seconds. I mean, it's one scary blender, and it looks scary too - not homey like the nice Osterizer - that's why I keep the Osterizer around - for guests and other nervous people.

my parents have that exact blender. it matches their mustard yellow appliances from the 70s.

i just inherited a friend's old osterizer, as well. we've been making banana milkshakes with it. it's avocado green. it's got this hot, cadillac-ish logo on it. it's really great.

in fact, i bet my blender is more hipster than your blender. i declare a blend-off!

i used to have that blender--but we blew it up in santa barbara making frozen margarita's. i think mine came from my grandma too.

wow, this blender is a hot item and all the cool people have it!

janelle, your blender totally sounds more hipster! that said, i think mine could whoop your blender's ass in the blend-off.
