How About Some New Glasses, Mrs. Reagan?

POST #    1096

So she finds out that Ronnie dies, this might be the last thing on her mind...but how about getting some new glasses Nancy? I mean seriously, it's the 00's not the 90's (or 80's as your late husband might have thought), so update those glasses!! You're eligible for social security and Medicare, no? Or how about dipping into the stipend that your husband got? I mean, you're no spring chicken anymore...if you want to get married, you better get some new glasses.

Ouch. That's cold dude. ;-)

Making fun of people is funny. This is just stupid. I mean c'mon - fucking glasses? What Queer Eye even notices shit like that?

Posted by: Ed at June 10, 2004 4:41 PM

Yeah, that seems kind of insensitive. I noticed her glasses, but don't think that I'd actually say anything about them.

Posted by: brendan at June 10, 2004 4:46 PM

Hahahaha! Wow dude that's vicious!

But would it kill her to hit the tanning booth?

Posted by: matt at June 10, 2004 5:05 PM

We all die alone.

Posted by: Donnie at June 10, 2004 5:08 PM

i must say, this was quite an insensitive and distasteful attempt at humor. absolutely lame and offensive.

Posted by: noname at June 10, 2004 6:11 PM

yeah pretty lame I must add . Attacking an 80 yr old widow about her glasses . poor ! get a haircut blog-boy ...

Posted by: bill at June 10, 2004 6:21 PM

so if you guys find it lame and offensive, don't read my site. i was just making an observation.

Posted by: tien at June 10, 2004 6:35 PM

that was offensive mr. mao. by god, you are an insensitive bastard. if i ever met you in person, id give you a vicious noogie. noogie i say!!!

To your comment, we say "NUTS!"

Posted by: Steric at June 10, 2004 9:26 PM

The sky is blue.

That's an observation. What you said about Mrs. Reagan was cruel and indeed lame-ass. You want a fuckin cookie or something for making fun of an 80 year old widow for wearing the kind of glasses an 80 year old widow would wear? I hope you feel better about yourself now. You must be one angry and sad little Chinese man.

Posted by: John Boy at June 10, 2004 11:12 PM

hmm, they sound quite miffed tien. it takes a certain level of miff-ness to address someone so sternly in the "angry and sad little (insert ethnicity) man" methodology.

Posted by: halo | veritech pilot at June 10, 2004 11:39 PM

perhaps the pressure of making daily postings has gotten to you (after all, there's only so many times you can write about what you made for dinner or posting silly face-stuffing pics of yourself). how anyone can make such tasteless remark about an 80 yr old widow who just lost her husband is beyond my comprehension. i'm afraid your desperate attempt to sound 'funny' just backfired. and judging from all the negative responsese, i only hope that you're at least aware of the insensitvity and lack of better judgement that you've portrayed, rather than continuing to make an ass of yourself with your oh-so-lame 'it's my site, don't read it then' response.

speaking of which, how about a close-up shot of your silly, pouting face for your next post, with the caption 'it's my site, don't read it then'.

blah, blah, blah.

Posted by: tien at June 11, 2004 8:21 AM

you know how it is with old people, they turn 75 or 80 and their fasion sense becomes frozen in time.

but nancy and her fancy dresses, she's got an image to upkeep! definitely she needs some new specs.

Posted by: janelle at June 11, 2004 9:16 AM

frozen true, but look at ray charles...he had some nice looking eyewear.

Posted by: tien at June 11, 2004 9:28 AM

Whatever, i'm going to agree with tien on this. If you're going to be a public figure, you need to watch what you wear. If mean, she can't run around in juicy couture sweatpants or something. Plus, why can't one make negative remarks if someone passed away? Would you say that everyone should say that Bush was an awesome president when he dies a few decades from now?

These glasses remind me of the Seinfeld episode where George finds ones he likes, but they are actually the SOPHIA LOREN line for women. I think my grandmother rocked a pair of glasses like Nancy's in the 80s, but the thing is that Nancy is such a tiny lady and these glasses are huge (the only people wearing glasses like this now outside of the retirement community are Williamsburg hipsters), so it just looks jarring given our flash 21st century fashion sense.

Tien:

Wow, I am sorry you received such personal negative feedback, but am happy it sparked some active conversation.

I think Nancy is to us simply a public figure/persona, and like Britney Spear's persona and many other public figures she is open to the public's critique - what do you call Saturday Night Live?

Perhaps, you too have now become a public name people can freely ridicule. I was surprised by how easy it was for people to let out their aggression on you and can only explain it by thinking they must not know you.

Either way, it would be kind of cute to have a pouting picture of you, we could include it in the Tien Hottie Photo Gallery.

Peace out yo,

Christiona

i'm with halo - what's REALLY REALLY f-ing lame is when people use ethnicity to throw barbs.
"You must be one angry and sad little Chinese man"??? gimme a break.

if tien wants to nancy-bash on his site, i don't give a shit. if you don't want to run the risk of reading something potentially offensive, don't read this blog. or better yet, crawl back into your comfortable hole.

I am surprised how this comment sparked so much controversy. I actually thought the same thing as Tien when I saw her glasses.

Any woman married to the man who was single-handedly responsible for further marginalizing the poor and displaced in this country deserves a good verbal bludgeoning.

Rock on, Tien.

Paris Hilton wears such glasses, too.

Hey, Tien...tell the crybabies to go to hell. I laughed at your comment. All the neoconservs can go laud the Reagans all they want. The rest of us will do what comes naturally -- make fun of them.

Keep up the good work, dude.

Don't you know the glasses are only ugly on Sally Jessy Raphael?
