Cell Phone Call-Back Standard

POST #    993

Can we come up with some sort of standard for the return call on cell phones? With all the dropped/disconnected calls, aren't there too many situations where people will call each other at the same time, both getting voicemail? There needs to be some sort of accepted standard, so there can be less confusion. I suppose everyone can get a Nextel phone like their commercials suggest.

I propose that the person placing the call should be the first person to make the call-back attempt. They were the original person to call, so if the conversation continued, the call would have been on their minutes anyway, so that makes sense, no?

What if the person who was making the call, not noticing the call has been dropped, is still chatting away? Then the person who has been dropped will be waiting forever.

okay, maybe imposing a time frame? maybe about 30 seconds? and people should realize if the call has been dropped. no sound on the other end, or no "uh-huh", "right", or "okay" affirmations from the other side should be a clue.

i hate nextel phones. they're silly. just buy a walkie talkie or whatever they're called. it's bad enough that we have to hear one side of a person's conversation while on an elevated train or a bus...hearing both sucks.

corie, i would argue that nextel is actually very useful for some businesses. not great for personal use, but still...

businesses, yes...F train, no.
