Shower: Morning vs. Night

POST #    976

I'm usually a morning shower person. I wake up, hit the shower, get dressed, go to work or do whatever. Yesterday, I skipped the morning shower (I was feeling lazy) and took a late night shower, and followed it up with a quick shower this morning. Now, the reason that I shower in the morning is that I feel it wakes me up and because it gets my hair wet and manageable. The evening shower also has its merits though, with the main one being that you go to bed clean. My biggest problem with that is that my hair invariably ends up a mess in the morning and going to sleep with wet hair is no fun (blowdrying is not an option).

I might have come up with a solution. Take a shower at night to get the daily filth off me and follow it up with a quick - no shampoo, no soap - shower in the morning to wet the hair down and wake up. I even shaved last night, thus avoiding the morning shave. Two problems with this approach: it means taking two showers a day (which I am generally opposed to) and using that much more water. Maybe I'll try it out again tonight and see how it goes.

I forgot to say something about underwear usage. If I do shower twice, how would I manage my underwear use? I would obviously change after the night-time shower, but would I use the same pair in the morning the next day? Last night, I changed into an older pair of boxers and put a fresh pair on this morning. If I continued to do this though, I would have to do much more laundry. Such a dilemma.

Why not go a little more OCD and shower in the AM and PM? I like that you prefer showering in the AM because it makes your hair more managable. You might want to consider conditioner. Or a haircut.

Actually, I battle with the same indecision. I prefer to shower at night because I get into bed clean...but I do it more in the winter, mainly because I don't like going outside with wet hair. In the summer, I like to shower at night because I feel icky, but when I wake up I feel equall as icky, and wind up showering twice anyway.

No matter what you do, if you're clean, it's ok.

i may do the twice a day shower. another issue i forgot to add is the underwear issue. i'll go back and add that now.

see, even if i do get a haircut, it would still be messy in the morning. and showering twice in the winter would just try out my skin...and we all know i don't like applying lotion.

Bottom line: you wash your nether regions, put on new undies. Period.

As a long time evening-showerer (is that a word?), here's my two cents: I shower at night, cause I sweat a lot during the day and need to cool/clean off before bed. After the evening shower, I put on clean underwear to sleep in, which I wear again the next morning. In the AM, if necessary, I simply get my hair wet so that it is not so messy - no shower. I might even shampoo it again in the AM if it I want to feel especially clean, but this is usually not necessary. Of course, since my hair is very short, this is not a big problem for me.

This method also saves me time in the morning, which I like.

so corie, what if did the superficial wash in the morning, would that require fresh underwear?

justin, i appreciate your insightful thoughts on the matter.

shower at night makes u clean and feel sleepy.. the hot water takes the heat and enery from ur body... indeed like the sun does on a hot summer day. after lying in the sun you feel like you need to sleep. same corollary. twice a day works, same underwear tho .. only change at night

In the cooler seasons, shower at night before bed. It relaxes you and prepsyou for a better night's rest.

In the warmer seasons, shower at night and a quick shower in the morning(shampoo optional).

Oh and the underwear issue? If it's white, it's alright. If it's brown, it's coming down.

Shower in the morning is gr8 because it makes not only your body, but the mind fresh too.

It improves productivity during the day.

Key Word: HYGEINE.

You should change your underwear after each shower. You don't want a clean body in dirty clothes, do you? Then the shower would be pointless.

I found your site trying to search for ways to manage this problem of mine. Why not go to bed commando? I have read your nether regions should breathe overnight anyway.

So my problem here is: I am an oily person in general. I like to shower in the morning, but doing so has caused me to rush into work late with wet hair, and I don't think that's going to look good at my new job. I don't like showering at night because of the hair issue. I feel like it will be a mess and hard to control in the morning, on top of feeling a little oily and dirty (mainly skin and hair). Have you come up with any solutions yet?
