The Most Addictive Nut?

POST #    967

I haven't really given this much thought, but I'm wondering, "what is the most addictive nut?" For me, the frontrunner right now is the honey roasted peanut. A evil co-worker dumped some in my hand this morning (by some I mean an overflowing handful) and I promptly scarfed them down. Obviously, I craved more immediately, but I was out of the office, so couldn't eat any more of them. But said co-worker just plopped the rest of the peanuts onto my desk, clearly expecting me to polish them off. Told you she was evil.

I don't even like honey roasted peanuts that much (my favorite nut is almond in pretty much any form - nut, Almond Joy, extract). I guess the reason I'm addicted to them is that they are sweet and slightly salty, probably the perfect combination for a nut (har, har) like me. There is probably a better nut out there, but right now, my mind is in a honey roasted glaze. Excuse me while I go eat some more peanuts.

It's time for some Mr. Peanut and Otto the Orange!

Peanuts are a good reliable nut, but I'm a fan of cashews (super fatty), pistachios, and walnuts with sugar on them. And hazelnuts on chocolate ice cream.

I'm giggling and it's because I'm picturing Tien playing Harlan Pepper in Best in Show. Pine nuts, hazelnuts, peanuts...

I'm partial to the salted cashew. Yum yum yum. Jen, cashews (in moderation) actually have the good kind of fat (what is it-- polysaturated instead of mono or something like that).

i too like pistachios a lot. it's my favorite ice cream.

as far as harlan pepper, i don't remember that bit of best in show. i should put it on my netflix queue.

I with the cashews. I do feel as though eating the number that I would like to would cause death, and I think that's part of their appeal.

I, too, enjoy a good handful of cashews. Cashews are definitely my favorite form of nut.

Cashews. Yummy. Tien, you write about food a lot.

Most addictive nut, however, is pretty much a wrap with the betel nut. Which I thought was a major yuk-a-thon when I gave it a try or two ("meeta pan" means "run away"), but it's an acquired taste by all reports.

i can't say that i love the cashew that much. i do find the shape amusing.

well, linus, only 3 of the posts on this page were about food. and yes, the betel nut is addictive. but i'm not going to count that one.
