Splash Guard and Door Details

POST #    962

Splish splash, stainless steel backsplash

Door frame details

Not much progress was made since last week. One problem I have is my bathroom trim. It's all chrome looking, but I'm not sure that it goes with the wood doors. Any opinions out there?

The lights have supposedly arrived and will be installed later in the week. The 1st floor bathroom underwent some minor changes to accommodate the fixtures. I did, however, leave the apartment smelling like paint and wood stain.

What's wrong with smelling like wood stain? Makes you seem rugged.

I often dab a little wood stain or polyurethane sealant behind my ears...

hmm, you could always paint the inside of the door. that's probably not the kind of answer you'd want from an architect, though. but it would be a quick, inexpensive fix even if it's temporary. is the door hardware in the apartment brass? if so, are you replacing it with nickel hardware? it's always so much nicer, i hate that brass stuff.

well, janelle, as of yesterday, only the hinges are brass. all the other door hardware is not in place. except on the main door to the apartment. since the door is new, i don't think i'm going to paint it. the things i bought (tp holder, towel rack, etc) are all in a chrome-like mirror finish, i believe.

so i'm thinking the doorknobs throughout the apartment should match those or have a nickel finish.

I'm not sure if this is one of the best pizza shops in our humble city, but up by Columbia University on 110 and Broadway their is a place called "Koronet" there slices are the size of an average persons torso, you have to see it to believe it!

Hm... woodgrain and chrome don't really match too well. One option I've seen, though it is fairly hideous, is to paint the wood frame the color of the walls. Another option (possibly a better one) would be to remove the bulky woodgrain frame and replace it with a thinner frame, that could be made of wood, but that is something like the color of the walls, but slightly off. This distinguishes the doorway from the wall, but keeps it matching and doesn't draw a great conflict to the chrome items.
