Food Diary - Day Five, 4.5.04

POST #    918

I think I'm noticing a trend, a bad food trend. Today's list of food: chestnuts, a smorgasbord of Chinese food for lunch, and an iced tea, from Burger Joint, some Sam Adams (x4), fries, cheeseburger (x2) and a milkshake. I think a diet is starting Thursday.

Burger Joint was excellent. It was cheap, fast, and tasty. I'm not sure it's quite as good as a Bistro Burger, but it's damn good. Cheeseburger for $5.50, fries for $1.50, and brownies for $1.50...how can you go wrong?!? (Mad cow, heart disease, and cholesterol don't count.)

Haha, a diet MIGHT be a good idea.....but then again, I think you should put it off for awhile.....you need to maintain your ability to eat large quantities of food so you can put on a good showing in the cheesecake challenge! Remember, the more you eat today - the more you'll be able to eat tomorrow! :)

while i am sure that all those things were very tasty, i have to say that closeups of juicy moist food look a little too fear factor for me.

keep it up, you make me look like i eat healthy

Tien, not to disrupt your established order of (dining) things, aren't there any good Afghani restaurants up there you could get beef kabob's, palau and chick peas at?

My quickie lunch of a Balance bar sucks when I think about a burger...mmm...burger.

Posted by: Jen at April 6, 2004 2:46 PM

Jen,

No, no no you poor, poor thing a balance bar?! You need to take an hour no matter what you're doing and sit down and eat some real food. It helps during the work day believe me.

well, justin, the cheesecake challenge isn't to see who can eat the most, but to see who has the best cheesecake.

el, the meat was pretty rare...and they were supposed to be mediums, i believe.

jeff, so far today is going much better. hopefully i don't fall apart tonight.

kenny, i suppose there are some afghani places in nyc, but i can't say that i've ever had their cuisine.

jen, i got nothing for you. but i did once have a good balance bar. i was really hungry though.

mm. yogurt honey peanut balance bars ar yummy. but i could eat about 5 of them in one sitting.

tien, you claim that the cheesecake challenge is about the best cheesecake, yet you are the one who made a stink about each person bringing a SLICE versus an entire CAKE! you'd better eat a lot of cheesecake-- i'm sending you home with the leftovers.

Posted by: corie at April 6, 2004 4:33 PM

corie, i just think that once slice of each place is just too little for so many people.

Tien,

Not to hinder your dieting aspirations, but you might want to try out this burger joint in the lobby of the Park Meridien. Hidden in the lobby, the place is very down to earth and you can get a milkshake, burger, and fries for under $10. Plus, I think it's better thatn BistroBurger.

actually, that's where i was last night. "burger joint" - see link in post.

As a diet connoisseur of sorts, the only thing I can say is all diets suck, and believe me I've tried them all, low cal, low carb, no carb, no sugar, all veg, no veg, all cheese, all protein, all Cheeto, you see where I'm going here. The best thing to do is have a balanced diet, limit portions, and slap on a pedometer-walk as much as you can. Among the many things I envy about those who live in large cities, is the ability to walk everywhere. Where I live you have to drive EVERYWHERE or risk ending up as roadkill on the side of the highway. Studies have shown that people who live in suburban areas tend to weigh more than those in urban areas. So tien, eat that burger and just take the long walk home.

Yikes, that photo-cropped collage is pretty scary! Except for the lettuce leaves and a Lipton label, there's a blah color to the whole thing! :) Still, I'd like a cheeseburger right about now.

matt, i actually really like the photos of the fries. not sure why. i like how the bag came into focus, but the fries didn't.

as for the rest of the photos, i guess some came out darker on pc's. it looks a little better on a mac.
