Apartment Update

POST #    798

Water heater.

Air handler.

It's been a little while since I've had any apartment updates, but the apartment is slowly progressing, emphasis on slowly. My air conditioner/heat and hot water heater/tank have been installed. The tile in the basement is finished. A toilet and vanity mirrors have been purchased. Kitchen and bathroom measurements have been taken.

This weekend, I found out that there is no cable in the building, which means no cable TV or cable modem. Clearly, this is not acceptable. I've called Time Warner and they are going to take a look at the building. I also inquired about the possibility of the building getting a bulk contract for cable service. Hopefully, all goes well. I can't imagine life without cable television and a cable modem.

Oh no...dealing with Time Warner. That's sucks. They suck.

I meant "that sucks," not "that's sucks."

does your building have a clear view of the southern sky?

Posted by: dan at March 1, 2004 9:09 AM

i think that time warner will pull through for me. a valued customer. besides, this will only increase their revenue.

dan, i think i do have a clear view. i mean, the whole area consists of low rise buildings, so i guess i would. i know, direct tv. and it's very tempting. but if there was no cable service, that means no cable modem. and that would be bad.

is there any chance cablevision could service your building? optimum online is supposed to be really fast, like 9Mbs compared to 2-3 or roadrunner or earthlink cable.

Posted by: Jimmy Legs at March 1, 2004 9:18 AM

wow, that sounds fast. but i think i might actually like time warner. shocker, i know. that, and i kind of want ny1.

Posted by: tien at March 1, 2004 9:22 AM

yeah, and cablevision can't service any area where TW already is...which makes me question why they'd even try to provide service in NYC.

Posted by: corie at March 1, 2004 9:28 AM

life without cable is a dreary place. i know this all to well. sigh.

Posted by: christina at March 1, 2004 9:57 AM

Corie: Cablevision is actually the only cable provider in much of Brooklyn and Queens.

Posted by: Mike at March 1, 2004 12:44 PM

Really? I wish they'd take over Park Slope. I hate TW.

Posted by: corie at March 1, 2004 12:52 PM

cablevision missed my house by one block, grr. there's something fishy about the fact that they don't share any turf. some free market ...

Posted by: Jimmy Legs at March 1, 2004 4:52 PM

you can go dsl, no? I think directv also has a high speed satallite thing, but it might be pricey. I don't get online much at home.

Posted by: dan at March 1, 2004 7:51 PM

What about Dish? I have the Dish Network and Verizon DSL. The only thing that sucks is that satellite doesn't carry NY1.

Posted by: Joclyn at March 1, 2004 9:56 PM

i actually prefer cable modem to dsl. worst case scenario, i'll go direct tv and dsl, but i think cable/cable modem would be cheaper than the direct tv/dsl combo.

Egads...the thought of life without broadband. How could you live?

Posted by: FlatGreg at March 2, 2004 5:00 PM

greg, this is why i am calling time warner incessantly.

Posted by: tien at March 2, 2004 6:35 PM

Cable Vision is really fast. But not all people get the 9MB connection. It depends on were you live and if you use ehternet or usb. I got about 9.5 connection. If u upload alot the put a cap on it.
