So Long Rachelle

POST #    796

Rachelle, walks to her truck, friends in background.

Someone had to blow their nose.

Tears dried, Rachelle and Jess ready for the road.

Yesterday, Rachelle moved to Chicago, packing up her stuff and heading west in a Uhall. One has to wonder how Rachelle could accumulate as much stuff in a room the size of a shoebox, but Rachelle seemed to do it. We finished packing relatively quickly and sent Rachelle and Jess on their way. A friendly neighborhood man wished Rachelle well and after learning that she was moving to Chicago, he said that he would "see her in a week!" One hopes that that's true, but I think she might be there for good. It's was sad day in the West Village.

Almost a year ago, I met Rachelle briefly at a Mets game. Thus was the beginning of our friendship. Obviously, I wish her the best of luck in her new city, but I also wish she would have stayed. A job offer came along that was perfect, and all of us here in New York reluctantly told her that it was a good idea to take it. She had a good run in New York, but she made a move that will help her career and move her closer to family. I, like all of her friends here will miss her. I'll miss the countless fun things we did together and all the bad photos that we took of each other, but she'll be back in September, so we'll take some more then. Maybe I'll take a trip out to Chicago this summer; I've always wanted to catch a game at "The Friendly Confines."
