What Happened to ER?

POST #    776

So I'm sitting here, watching NBC and it transitions from The Apprentice to ER. I remember watching ER when it first debuted, with a much younger looking Susan brought in after trying to kill herself. Now she's back on the show after a break and pregnant. I think the last episode I saw before today was when Anthony Edwards died. You know a show has gone into the shitter when they kill off Goose.

Now, they sell every ER as "an unforgettable new ER," "an ER that you won't forget," or as "an ER that can't be missed." How can that be? If it were true, I would have watched every episode. Maybe I have, but I've forgotten. On the plus side, they do have two women with British accents and Mekhi Phifer on the show now. And how is Noah Wyle still on this show? Sure, they are throwing money at him, but doesn't he want to move on? Try his hand at other acting roles?

actually, i think Carol (Julianna Marguiles) was the one in the premiere ep. who tried to kill herself, wasn't it??

oh yeah! see, clearly, not all er's are episodes you'll never forget. what, that was 10 years ago?

I used to LOVE ER when it first came out, and even a few years later, particularly when I was in college. I feel like, though they always had a soap opera-like storyline, it was much more gorey and blood/medical oriented. My favorite was when one of the interns committed suicide by jumping in front of the subway and getting completely mangled...and they only identified him by the fact that they kept paging him and the pager was in his pocket...That's what I liked...now it's just a full on rediculous soap opera with really boring characters.

so is anthony edwards

Posted by: rachelle on a dell at February 20, 2004 9:48 AM

and mekhi phifer

Posted by: rachelle on a dell at February 20, 2004 9:48 AM

yep, 10 years. man, that makes me feel old.

Posted by: dy at February 20, 2004 9:51 AM

not that i dream about any of them, but anthony edwards? dreamy? i mean, noah and mekhi sure, but dream about a bald man? not in my dreams.

Posted by: tien at February 20, 2004 10:01 AM

It is Mr. Edward's lips. They are full and luscious. Paired with his large dewy eyes you have a bald hottie who looks like a sensitive man you could read poety all night with. Mmmmm the best kind.

Posted by: Bunny at February 20, 2004 10:44 AM

he's bald? i didnt get past his eyes..

Posted by: rachelle on a dell at February 20, 2004 11:52 AM

not to point out the obvious, but isn't mekhi bald too?

Posted by: dahl at February 20, 2004 2:20 PM

maybe i like baldies

Posted by: rachelle on a dell at February 20, 2004 2:30 PM

Maybe, Rachelle, you are a kind sensitive soul who can look past seemingly negative physical attributes and see the warm wonderful person within.

Or you have a icky bald man fetish which you cannot overcome and can only be happy when you are with or thinking of bald men. Ew.

Posted by: Bunny at February 20, 2004 2:35 PM

dahl, i think mekhi shaves his head.

Posted by: tien at February 20, 2004 3:01 PM

i dont think i've ever gone out with a bald man so i cant really say which it is, bunny!!

Posted by: rachelle on a dell at February 20, 2004 3:05 PM

If Mekhi does shave his head, then Larry David does not consider him part of the "bald community". That's for the curb your enthusiasm fans out there!

And Tien, killing off Anthony Edwards seemed to work just fine for Top Gun, so ER must have figured that it would be worth a shot for them too!

All I know is I run an ER, and it ain't nothin' like the show. It's crazier, but none of the people are as good looking ... or as interesting ...

I'd like to point out that Susan and the guy who is her babydaddy - look alike. Next time you watch, check it out. They look like brother and sister. Ewww.

justin, i would say that while killing goose didn't hurt top gun, er has not gotten better since he was killed on the tv show.

oscar, you run a er?!? so which character would that make you on the show?

DJ, i'm not sure that i'll be watching er in the future. i've lost all interest.

I am a bald[ing] man, and I am utterly hot. At least, that's my wife's story, and I'm clinging to it.

Posted by: Doug at February 22, 2004 1:58 AM

None of us in my ER are in the least like anyone on the show ... and while I used to be in there saving the world, as time has gone by, I now spend most of my day in meetings (they don't emphasize that part on the show ...)

Posted by: Oscar at February 22, 2004 8:35 AM

wait oscar, there is no sex in the er like on the show? meetings? those sound like fun.

i actually think that real hospitals are more depressing than than the tv show. er seems a lot more sensational than depressing. but that's just my outside opinion.
