Foiled By the Popularity of Hot Chocolate
Click on image for the full schedule.
Last night after work, I headed over to City Bakery for some hot chocolate. All this month, they are having a "Hot Chocolate Festival" where they feature a different flavor of hot chocolate every day. Despite being a February tradition since 1992, it's not much of a festival to me, since it's only their hot chocolate. If it included hot chocolates from all over the city, then that would be a hot chocolate festival. Yesterday was supposed to be caramel hot chocolate, but since I arrived at around 6:40, they were already sold out of it. Much to my disappointment, they replaced it with ginger hot chocolate. Blech. Since I don't work anywhere near City Bakery, I'll probably have to go on the weekend to check out their so called festival.

this is the perfect excuse for me to finally get over to city bakery. luckily there are two more chances for the caramel.

much to my dismay, they will not have beer hot chocolate again this month.
btw, i think i'm going crazy/getting old. i could swear i commented about the beer, but it's clear i didn't.

was the ginger hot chocolate really gingery? I might go for that. it is tempting to be late for work monday so I can try the darkest dark hot chocolate.

i had a taste of the ginger (they give you little samples if you ask), and it was distinctively ginger.
i don't know if they start serving it when they open. they might only start it at noon, or some crap like that. you should call and check.

The first time I went to city bakery and got a hot chocolate I was waited on by maury rubin, the owner and chef. The way he asked me if I wanted a homemade marshmallow was so utterly charming I couldn't say no. it was so totally gross i've never had another one.
good advice about calling before going. I just realized I'm only going to be in town two days next week so I probably shouldn't be skipping out of work for h.c.
glad to see the internet has reached chicago.

It didn't melt and was like eating a big blob of gelatin. Given the raves from you and rachelle, I may give it another try.
their crappy website has disappeared.
