Closing Time

Hello Mortgage!
Yesterday, I closed on my apartment. Closing is always a pain. Both sides have to sign countless sheets of papers, leaving your hand in no condition to do anything when you are finished. If you're buying, you get to fork over tons of money as a bonus. Overall, my contract to closing date was a fast process, but if you're buying an apartment, it seems like a process that will never end.
My reward? Besides owning a piece of property (unlike my last apartment, which was a co-op), I get this nice mortgage. Nothing like a six digit loan to brighten your day. I now get the renovation process to look forward to. This also seem like a process that will never end.
Previously on the apartment:
- revisiting counter options and tile options
- mortgage approval
- kitchen cabinet design
- contract and mortgage
- appliance shopping
- floor and counter ideas
- the apartment
- the floorplan

yes, it's always a comforting feeling to know that i could very well be paying off the mortgage on my studio apartment until i'm nearly 60.

Say man, I'll buy that apartment off of you for... oh... how does $4000 sound? You like that kind of money? We can talk.

congrats on your new pad..
just out of curiousity, is your apartment leasehold? i.e. basically you get a mortgage to pay for the right to live in an apartment for say 99 years.. here in the UK we have freehold or leasehold properties.. freehold is like a house where you own the building and the land its on, leasehold is for flats (or apartment to you guys)..
just wondering...

Congratulations, Mr. Homeowner! 40 will arrive sooner than you think.

ian, i don't beleive that my apartment is leasehold. i know there are some buildings in the city like that, but i don't believe mine is one of them. at least i hope not.
thanks joe. 30 is coming up, i guess. but this is my 2nd post college mortgage! that's just crazy.

Tien, you're fortunate to be able to get a mortgage, buy a property ... despite all the hassle, it's obviously better than renting. I wish I could afford such an endeavor.

steve, i'll totally agree with you there. buying, while a hassle has it's advantages. i only hope that renovations don't drive me insane.
