Dessert at Rice to Riches

POST #    703

After dinner at Rice, Corie, David, Dahlia, Rachelle and I went for dessert at Rice to Riches, heaven for anyone that enjoys rice pudding. I'm not that big on rice pudding, but I had to have more rice after dinner. It's just not possible for a Chinese person to live without rice, right? Rice to Riches has to be one of the slickest stores in NY, it even rivals the Apple Store in SoHo. They also have fancy packaging that you can take your rice pudding home in. I got the Coast-to-Coast Cheesecake and the Pistachio Protest. While the pistachio was good, I liked the cheesecake much more (must have something to do with cheesecake being my favorite cake).

Does Rice to Riches serve warm rice pudding, or is it all cold?

yes, joe, they apparently do. none of us got the warm stuff, but david was asking about it.

they definately serve it warm. they even give you suggestions on which ones taste best warm. it was totally fun. i recommend it, in spite of the fact that i did not have rice pudding last night

why didn't we get it warm? rice pudding is supposed to be warm...

Posted by: corie at January 16, 2004 11:52 AM

not sure why. that would have made a lot of sense, considering the weather.

wow - that pistachio rice pudding looks like linda blair's vomit in "the exorcist" (pea soup). yuk!

i love rice to riches, even if more conceptually than in reality. (although last time i got some really yummy and rich stuff. mmm)

concept: it's a beautiful store, it's totally photogenic, very modern, adorable take-home dishes.
reality: you get WAY too much rice pudding than one should really be allowed to eat, and you never re-use that plastic container.

jeannette, i think you hit the nail on the head.

regarding my assessment of RTR or the pistachio rice pudding?

Posted by: jeannette at January 17, 2004 2:02 AM

both

Posted by: rachelleb at January 17, 2004 8:54 AM

yes, both. i have a bunch of rice pudding left and i'm not even sure that i want to finish it! especially now that both the flavors have mixed.

After like three visits last summer I found RTR's extreme flavors tired and gimmicky. Plus, my ufo container leaked when I used it. But, and I can't stress this strongly enough, you can never have too much plain rice pudding to eat!
