Maybe Long Island Isn't That Bad

POST #    700

Citibank drive-up ATM.

Yesterday, I was in Garden City Park for the second time in two days. Now, as a city kid, I rail on the suburbs a lot, but they have at least two things up on city life - 7-Elevens and drive-up ATMs (I also got a Slurpee for the second time in two days). A drive-up ATM obviously does you no good if you don't have a car, which is why there are none in NYC, but I think the Citibank ATM that I went to in Long Island has one of the coolest features I have ever seen. The ATM has an adjustable height. Maybe these are really common, but since I've used a drive-up ATM maybe one other time in my life, I thought this was the best idea ever. There are three buttons for different types of cars, short, medium, and tall. If that adjustment isn't close enough for you, you can use the fine adjustment buttons. Even though the medium height was good for the car I was in, I used the fine adjustments to grab the cash and the receipt. Why? Just because it was there.

Wow. Dive-up technology has come a long way since I used them. People, however, will still drop their card/money/keys through the window and have to get out of the car, slowing the line an adding to the ever present suburban road rage. One of the most maddening things about drive up ATMs (that I can remember) was the person who would drive up to the machine, get out of the car, do their business s-l-o-w-l-y, get back in, fiddle around a bit in the car, then drive away. Can you tell that I was not created to be a suburban dweller? No patience.

i might have been that person yesterday. i had to take a picture of the cool contraption, but someone was behind me. they only got there as i whipped out the camera though, so i'm not a complete ass. i pulled out before putting my wallet and stuff away too.

coo beans. i havent really checked the atms lately when ive been back in the burbs, but shit...i could used that back then. my car was stupidly low, so i used to stretch 50% of my body out the window to even be able to see the screen.

the machine looked pretty worn too, which leads me to believe that it's not that new a system too.

I'd prefer a tube that just dumped money into my car. Not my money, mind you, but money from a money tree.

that would be pretty sweet corie. you know what needs to be used more? vacuum tubes. those went the way of betamax, didn't they.
