Hot Pot

POST #    693

So much meat.

I can't think that my parents were inspired by Jen's post about hot pot, but tonight, we had hot pot for dinner. I think the hot pot dinner was due to the frigid weather outside, since I don't think my mom reads other blogs just yet. Jen was saying how the Cantonese call hot pot "da bing lo", but us Mandarin speakers call it "huo guo", which literally translates to fire pot.

I can't say that out hot pot experience was quite the same experience as Jen's, since I didn't help go shopping, but I'm sure the end result was the same - stuffed stomaches.

Mmm, hot pot. The closest I got to that this weekend was very spicy Thai food. Sigh.

Remind me to send you a picture of me sticking Enoki mushrooms up my nose because I'm a loser and I like freaking my mom out.

mmm, very spicy thai.

i think you should just put the picture of you and the enoki on your site. i'm sure people would love it. failing that, i'll be sure to remind you about it.

Okay, I'll put the picture up. I don't think I can remember having shrimp in hot pot recently (in the past couple years) - we usually do fish balls or the Japanese reassembled fish cake loaf that's white with an artificial pink outside. And I'm a big fan of rice cakes.

if you don't want to put it up, you can just email it to me and i'll keep the laughter to myself.

i thought the shrimp was a bit odd, what with all that brain matter getting in the soup, but it wasn't too bad. i'm generally not a big fan of eating fresh shrimp because i feel that it's not worth the effort. fish balls though are good, but didn't make an appearance in our hot pot.

Hot pot is like Japanese Shabu Shabu. MMM. I love Shabu Shabu. Last time my girlfriend and I had Shabu Shabu she drank a whole bottle of champagne herself and forgot who I was. I had to carry her into the apartment and put her to bed.
