Greenwich Village Orchestra - "Hilarious!"

POST #    638

The Greenwich Village Orchestra

Yesterday, Eleanor, Jessica (the mysterious), Rachelle, and I took in some culture at the Greenwich Village Orchestra's annual Family Concert. The GVO is a symphony orchestra established in 1986 and comprised of musicians with day jobs. They strive "to bring the best possible performances of great music" to their audiences. It was certainly an enriching way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Well worth the $10 in my opinion. I'll have to check them out again sometime. That, or the New York Philharmonic.

They played Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 8, Op. 46 - Presto, Rossini's Overture to "The Barber of Seville," Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Op. 125 - Molto Vivace, Kreisler's Liebesleid, Saint-Saens' Dance Bacchanale, and accompanied the Third Street Music School Settlement on "My Favorite Things" and "Al Shlosha Di Varim."

Temporary Tatto Man: "Where would you like your tattoo?"
Me: "Um. Well.." (glance at the innocent children next to me) "I guess my.. uh.. hand.. That will have to do."
Temporary Tatto Man: (gives me that look) "Well, we can put it anywhere you'd like!"
Me: "Uh. My hand!"
Temporary Tattoo Man: "Are ya sure!?"

Here's a photo of my sexy GVO tattoo!

jimmy, i too liked that last photo. and rachelle was right, the photos make her look that much more exotic.

rachelle, it's not the tattoo that's sexy, it's the hand.

The shot with Zahraa spinning, just catching her face in the soft butter-spread of her dress was great. What is a packman hamburger??

Posted by: Arthur at December 15, 2003 7:52 PM

the packman hamburger will be up tomorrow morning.

I play french horn for the Greenwich Village Orchestra, and am glad that you and your friends came to our concert and enjoyed it.

Posted by: Cynthia Trostler at December 16, 2003 1:59 PM

hey cynthia, it was a good show. how did you find my site?

Posted by: tien at December 16, 2003 9:21 PM

Hi.

I, too, am a member of the Greenwich Village Orchestra (I play violin). I was incredibly flattered that you not only attended our concert but also found it interesting enough to comment on (and post some awesome pics on your blog)!!

How did you find out about us? We are *always* looking to understand better how we attract and retain our audience (sorry, I'm also on our Board :) ). We're performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in February and would really like to fill up the hall... except we will be performing it in a different venue. I hope you can make it!! It's going to be spectacular!

Thanks again,
.steve.
p.s. feel free to email me directly if you prefer...

hey steve, i'm glad you like the pictures. it wasn't so much the photographer as it was the location that i was sitting in. i think rachelle could have taken much better photos. i told cynthia and sunita already, but rachelle found your site through the manhattan user's guide and she thought it was a good idea, so we all decided to go. it was a great time. i want to try and make the february show, so perhaps, we will see you there.

Hi,
This is Zahraa. I found these comments through a search engine. Thanks for the photos and the entertaining review. I really enjoyed working with the Greenwich Village Orchestra. Their music is fantastic.

Why did you think I was high?? I never do drugs!! It is important to have a healthy mind and body.
