the coming weekend

POST #    453

this weekend, i'm going back to michigan to meet up with some college buddies and take in some michigan football action. the weekend has been planned for a long time, but for some reason, it's sneaked up on me. i think that's what always happens to me and vacations. my friends and i try to get together every year for a football game and for some reason, we choose homecoming this year. not intentionally since we don't really do any other homecoming activities. it will be a good time. and i'm taking friday off work, it's win win.

things to do while in michigan:
- take in a michigan hockey game friday
- take in a michigan football game saturday
- eat at zukey lake tavern saturday night
- drink a fair amount
- stay out until the bars close (psh, 2 am? i can do 2 am blindfolded)
- order late night pizza from nikko's (since dan knows their number by heart), while we make up our own coupon.

***amended things to do***
- drink at ashley's
- drink some vernor's ginger ale (if anybody loves ginger ale, i can try to bring back a bottle.)

things to do before leaving:
- laundry
- buy another memory card for camera

i vote for mitch's. the ashley's place always gave me a wierd vibe. and they don't have yuengling.

Posted by: dan at October 14, 2003 4:42 PM

when i was in baltimore i drank yuengling and liked it. then when i got back to nyc i ordered it in a bar and hated it. i dont know what the deal is.

Have fun in A2! I'm jealous - wish I could be there.

a vibe, huh? maybe we can hit up both? plus, i don't think mitch's will have lager either.

rachelle, dan would be the yuengling expert here. he's from and lives in pa. i'm just a poser with a license.

my only request is, on saturday night, we have to go somewhere with TVs so I can watch some football! There are obviously many places in AA that meet this criteria, so it shouldn't be a problem. Can't wait!

rachelle- there are actually 3 varieties of yuengling: regular lager (what i drink), yuengling light (surprisingly good), and yuengling black and tan (not my style). You might have had a different kind in nyc the second time around. Or it was a bad keg (bottle?).

i might need a lunchtime beer now.

Posted by: dan at October 15, 2003 11:54 AM

ohhhhhh. i thought there was just one kind.. i bet that's what happened.. that's what i get for being raised in miller country

Funny Yuengling story: I was in a small town in North Central PA before a UM - PSU football game a few years ago. In a restaurant, I asked if they had any imported beer. They said "sure, we have Yuengling"!! Apparently, bringing in a beer from a few hours away is considered "importing" in Brookville, PA!!

condoms and KY! lol!! seriously - a man should always have condoms with him. you never know... and KY just makes it nicer, but it's not a must-have.

have fun in michigan!! if you have room in your luggage (and can lug it back), i'd like to try some ginger ale. that sounds yummy :)

yes, and i am such the ladies man. notice to all ladies, if you want to see the murphy bed and the lime green paint jobs, let me know soon. because before you know it...it's going to be gone! no more tien lovin' in that apartment.

lots of people think yuengling is some kind of asian beer. guess that makes it more exotic to them. don't know how it can possibly get more exotic than pottsville, pa though.

maybe she was mixing up the term "import" with "microbrew"

is yengling a micro?

Posted by: rachelle at October 15, 2003 7:01 PM

Well, Yuengling touts itself as "america's oldest brewery", so I wouldn't exactly call it a microbrew, which I tend to associate with newer, trendier breweries. I just think the waitress was a little "slow", that's all!

Posted by: Justin at October 15, 2003 9:35 PM

yeh. i know people who consider anything not brewed by miller, bud, or coors to be either an import or a micro or just plain "weird" in their book.

Posted by: rachelle at October 15, 2003 11:39 PM

i think when you can buy a case of 30 cans of a particular beer, that eliminates any microbrew status.
