merchandise for sale

POST #    410

from the ny times:
"One section was devoted to Mao posters, quotations and speeches, as well as his famous 'Little Red [sic] Book.'"

there is a store that used to have sections dedicated to my merchandise! okay, not really. it had an area dedicated to another mao. minor detail. the store? none other than pearl river. it opened in 1978, the same year i was born, and is now located in soho. in 1986, it moved to a location on canal and broadway, which i remember going to when i was a kid. i might have even been there when they were renovating it. not sure why, i guess my parents knew the owners? i'll check on that. anyway, read about this new york institution.

i think i have pearl river brand soy sauce! damn, i'm so authentic asian. except my last name is sullivan. and i'm not asian at all. but someone told me once i looked polynesian, which is sort of asian, no?

i read that article and that sentence and immediately thought of you!

for me, pearl river mart is but a shadow of its former self. if i need to buy anything chinese-esque, i go to small, out of the way (read: cheaper) stores in chinatown. i applaud their success, but i never go to prm to buy anything anymore.

i liked their run-down old building. rummaging through dusty goods in an aging building just felt right. ;)

aww, you thought of me? how sweet.

dust makes me sneeze, so less dust is better, but i agree that there is something lost with the move. sniffle. i might have to go check it out though. see if my section is still around.
