changes at michigan
yesterday, to abide by the supreme court's decisions on affirmative action (read original post), the university of michigan has changed their admissions policy. once in place, the changes will cost $1.5 - $2 million, which is an increase of about 33%.
president coleman says, "our fundamental values haven't changed. we believe that in order to create a dynamic learning environment for all our students, we must bring together students who are highly qualified academically and who represent a wide range of backgrounds and experiences."
university provost paul courant says, "there is nothing duller than a classroom of people whose backgrounds and training are identical," in regards to diversity in higher education.
