crazy architects
i swear that at work last week, we were discussing all the project pitches we were doing for frank gehry (corcoran gallery of art and the princeton library) and if we were actually getting any of those projects. then, i joked about him building a new guggenheim and us just working on that. halley and i then discussed how the guggenheim has no money (keep in mind, this is during a weekly status meeting) to keep their museums open, let alone build more. but today, i read this article (via kottke) that says the guggenheim foundation has designs for a new museum in taichung, taiwan. not only that, but they also mentioned that they have a proposal for another museum in rio de janeiro. the guggenheim is just racking up the famous architects and buildings too: new york - frank lloyd wright, bilbao - frank gehry, jean nouvel - rio, taichung - zaha hadid. the museum at taichung is part of a proposed complex with elements designed by the aforementioned gehry and nouvel as well with the whole project costing about NT$12.4 billion, which translates to about $360 million.
